Jesus heals.

Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your presence Lord

Let us become more aware of Your presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness

“Holy Spirit” lyrics by Bryan and Katie Torwalt

Tonight I was asked the question…

Why are we so afraid that God CAN be SO good?

God IS good. He just is. This is all over scripture.

In Matthew 15 when Jesus feeds the four thousand, before He does this He heals people… “Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.

Jesus goes on to say… “I have compassion for these people;  they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat.”

Healing is in God’s nature. Compassion is in God’s nature. They both come from His heart. Like a fish is to water, Jesus healed people. There is no argument in that. Jesus healed- we can’t separate the two, but yet in today’s culture we do. why? I think it is because we are afraid. Healing doesn’t make sense to us. If I were to see a person’s leg grow 3 inches so they would then be able to walk is well just plain freaky. If I were to experience a blind man being able to see and a mute women talk after not being able to her whole life, well yes my first instinct would be “what the heck, huh?”

I have not experienced those said stories above, but I have heard them from other missionaries out on the field. I have heard stories of people here in Dallas being healed from gluten allergies and chronic pain.

I myself have been healed.

Some of you may remember our African car accident back in November of 2010. I 100% percent not only believe it was God’s miracle that we all did not die, but the fact that we were all up and walking only 3 days later with only 3rd world country doctor check ups was the Lord healing every single one of us. and He then used our healing to heal others… see about Jean Claude here and Brian Cooke here.

The Lord can heal in so many ways.

I tell you all these stories not for you to believe me or to try and get anyone to take a side. I tell you these stories because the reality is it is not even about the argument if Jesus still heals today or not. Jesus healing is the Gospel. If we have accepted Him into our hearts and have confessed Him as our King then we have been healed. Becoming a new creation is not putting a band-aid over the pain and the past. Becoming a new creation in Christ to become a whole new self… a self in the likeness of God.

We are not called to try and fix our old self. we are called to PUT IT OFF. it is corrupt. We are called to RENEW our new self with His inheritance.

[ Our new selves have been created in the likeness of God. ]

We have been healed by His blood.

[ Our calling is simple- it is to imitate God. ]

that is is.

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;  and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

Ephesians 5:1-2

My faith is not in healing a sickness (emotional or physical), my faith is in Jesus alone. and once I come to know Him and strive to be an imitator of Him, then I am representing His heart to others.

God wants to nourish and cherish us, He wants us to be pure and spotless when He comes to pick up His bride. He wants us to be healed and not broken, full of joy and not depressed. So if He calls us to be His imitators then why not speak with authority and declare His healings and goodness in our lives? God doesn’t want to see us in pain. to see us sick. He loves us and He is good- don’t be so scared of that fact. I know I have been. I am doubtful at times fo sure.

It brings God glory when we live out what He has died for us for. When we welcome His Holy Spirit to come and move. When we aren’t afraid to experience His goodness, even if it doesn’t come in the situations and circumstances we had hoped for. When we truly live for His JOY alone. So let’s shout it from the mountain tops…
